5 Steps to Publishing

Many people think that it is a difficult path to become an author, but the truth is that it is easier today than it has ever been. It still takes work and knowledge, because nothing comes without work. While the market may still be smaller for short stories than it once was, you have more options available and have the ability to change the market. Not everything here will work for every author, use or adapt what benefits you. This list will open you eyes to show you some of the advantages we have available to us today.
Traditional Publishing – The tried and true staple, is still strong even with the advent of digital publishing. Many of the other avenues can eventually lead to this, so don’t rule out traditional publishing even if you choose a different avenue.

Amazon Kindle Publishing – The big player in the digital market along with a very wide reach makes this a wonderful avenue. It is also VERY easy to enter. For that reason, anyone can publish, (and they do, which is reflected by the quality).
Self Publishing – This covers a very general term which can encompass print, digital or a combination in a number of forms.
Print on Demand – This is a form of Self Publishing where your book is not printed until it is ordered. This can be rather cost effective especially for small prints.
Blogging – Blogging is a popular way to share with an audience things you have written. Your income is not necessarily from what you post but rather for items you sell. You can even re-purpose your blog posts by turning them into a book, which you can sell to your audience. This is also a great way to build a following to sell your books to.

These are just some of the avenues you can use to get published. There are many others out there and combinations of each of these. None of them are necessarily better than the other, it is just a matter of what fits for you.
